Wii, a Japanese gaming console that has wireless connectors, has become the top selling video game-console in the United States.  Market tracking has shown that 666,000 Wii consoles have been sold in the US in June.  Talk about obsession for gaming!

Okay, so the Wii is a fun console for rainy days or a party.  I know.  I’ve played it.  But the problem with the Wii is that almost every kid has the $300 console, and they play it every second they can, from morning til night, even on sunny days.  I’m not totally against Wii, but there are days when you can go outside and play football with your friends, insted of playing Madden.  Yeah, the Wii does give you excersize, but not as much as going out on a nice day and actually playing.  Sometimes it’s around 100 degrees, but then you can at least go swimming.  Swimming the English Channel burns 1/3 of fat from your waist.  Now, I’m not saying every kid should swim the English Channel every week, but at least get off the Wii and run around and swim around!  Around 3/4 of kids are overweight in this country.  This occurs from playing on gaming consoles and eating popcorn and drinking pop, instead of excersizing outside and drinking water or gatorade.

Earlier this year, Xbox 360 sold 10 million in the US in a couple of months, giving Microsoft a milestone.  Then Nintendo got a milestone with the Nintendo DS, selling 783,000 in a couple of months.

Only God knows how many more ridiculous consoles Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony will make, but for now, Nintendo has the popularity on its side.
